Saturday Information Sessions
Monthly talks and walks are given by an expert in the subject covered that morning. These are held on the third Saturday of the month. The talks starts at 9.30am and after questions tea, coffee and biscuits are served. Then follows a guided walk in the Gardens to see the trees or plants discussed earlier. The sessions finish at about midday. |

This Month's Information Session May information session on Saturday 19, starting at 9.30am in the Gardens visitor centre. ""Orchids: form and function" is the title of the talk to be given by Dr Ashley Field. Dr Field has recently been employed by the Queensland Herbarium and is stationed at the Australian Tropical Herbarium on JCU's Cairns campus where he is curator of fern and lycopod families. He is currently investigating the systematics of fern and lycopod groups and the origins of their diversity in Australia. He is also interested in the biology of vascular epiphytes, niche specialisation among epiphytes and causes of rarity. His talk will consider the extraordinary diversity in the shape, colouration, life traits and associations and ecology of North Queensland orchids.
