You can be a Friend, too Memberships are available for the Friends of the Botanic Gardens Cairns Inc. Membership benefits you and it benefits the work of the Friends, which includes preserving the Gardens for future generations. |
The objectives of the Friends are to stimulate community interest in the Cairns Botanic Gardens and promote horticultural and botanical science in Cairns and to raise funds to improve the Gardens' collection and facilities.
The Friends have already significantly enhanced the Gardens by funding a landscaped sound stage to increase the recreational value of the Gardens, installing new stairs to provide better access to some areas, providing a wheel chair to aid visitors needing assistance, commissioned decorative benches, paid for a pump for the bore and provided funds to buy rare plants.
Members receive a newsletter featuring news items, event information and articles of interest.
Members meet in the Cairns Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre on the second Wednesday of the month (6:30pm). The meetings kick off with a simple BBQ which is followed by a semi formal presentation. The presenters cover a diverse range of topics from month to month. |
 |
| Field trips are held several times a year to allow Friends to visit special gardens or other sites of botanical interest. We also encourage members to be active in the various events we organise. More about participation can be found in our Volunteering page. |
